Drafting & Redlining Documents
In this section:
Pivott's Drafts feature gives your team a dedicated workspace for drafting and redlining agreements before they're ready for signature. You can upload a Word document, edit it with tracked changes and comments, collaborate with team members in real time, and send it directly for signature when it's done — all without leaving Pivott.

Drafts is available on Enterprise plans. Contact your account manager to have it enabled for your account.
What is Drafts?
Drafts is a document editing workspace built into Pivott. It's designed for the negotiation and review phase of a contract lifecycle: the period between having a first draft and having a fully executed agreement.
Within Drafts, you can:
- Upload a Word document (.docx) to begin a redlining session
- Edit the document using tracked changes, so every insertion and deletion is visible
- Leave comments on specific text for teammates or counterparties to respond to
- Collaborate with other Pivott users in real time on the same document
- Accept or reject individual tracked changes before finalizing
- Send the finalized document for signature directly through Pivott Signatures+
Drafts is separate from your contract repository. Documents in Drafts are in-flight working copies. Once a document is sent for signature and executed, it lives in your contract record — not in Drafts.
Accessing Drafts
Drafts appears in the left-hand navigation sidebar, above Contracts. If you don't see it, the feature may not be enabled on your account. Reach out to your account manager to get access.

Uploading a Document
- Click Drafts in the sidebar. The file picker will open automatically.
- Click Upload to upload a file from your computer. Drafts currently supports .docx files. If you need to work with a different file format, contact Pivott Support.
- Once uploaded, your file will appear in the Drafts file list.
- Click the file to open it in the editor.
Editing and Redlining
When you open a document, it loads in the Pivott document editor. The editor supports full rich-text editing with the following collaboration tools built in.
Track Changes
Turn on Track Changes to record every edit you make as a suggestion rather than a direct change. Insertions appear highlighted and deletions are shown with strikethrough, so reviewers can see exactly what's been modified.
Comments
Select any text in the document and add a comment to flag something for discussion. Team members can reply to your comments, and threads can be resolved once the point is addressed.
Accepting and Rejecting Changes
Use the suggestions panel on the right side of the editor to review each tracked change. You can accept or reject changes individually, or accept all at once when the document is finalized.

Collaborating with Team Members
Multiple users can work on the same document at the same time. To collaborate:
- Share the document name or link with your team member.
- Both users navigate to Drafts and open the same file.
- A collaboration strip in the editor shows who else currently has the document open.
Changes made by other users will appear in real time as tracked suggestions. Comments from all collaborators are visible in the comments panel.
Sending for Signature
Once redlining is complete and the document is ready to execute, you can send it for signature directly from the Drafts editor.
Note: Sending for signature requires Pivott Signatures+ to be enabled on your account. Contact your account manager if you're not sure whether Signatures+ is part of your plan.
- Review the document and ensure all tracked changes have been accepted or rejected. Any pending tracked changes will be discarded when the document is sent.
- Click Ready for Signature in the editor toolbar.
- A confirmation dialog will appear. Review the document name and confirm.
- The signature workflow will open inside Pivott, where you can configure signers and send the document for eSignature.

Once sent, you'll be returned to the Drafts file list.
Enterprise Setup
Drafts is available on Pivott Enterprise plans and must be enabled by your account manager. To get started, or if you have questions about access, reach out to your account manager directly.
