Purpose

Placeholder contracts are useful when you don't have the real contract handy or at all. They work for any contract type — whether it's a master services agreement that spans many properties or a single property agreement you'll fill in later. Sometimes you just want to get something in place today and add more details over time.

Tutorial

  1. Go to or create a Vendor
  2. Click Add Contract

Add Files (Optional)

Adding files is optional — placeholder contracts often don't have one. If you do have a file ready, see Adding Contracts for guidance.

Name & Description

  • Contract Name
    • If you only have one contract with a vendor, keep the name short: "Vendor MSA" or "123 Main St Agreement"
    • If you have many contracts with a vendor, be more descriptive:
      • Waste Management Trash MSA
      • Waste Management Recycling MSA
      • Waste Management – 123 Main St
  • Summary
    • Add a helpful warning or commentary
  • Start Date
    • Add a start date in the past — if you leave this blank or set a future date, your contract may appear inactive or expired
  • Other Fields
    • All other fields are optional

Choose Properties (Optional)

If you don't choose properties now, it's easy to add them later. Clauses, Spend, and Tasks can also be filled in now or skipped — you can always come back to them.

Adding or Changing Properties Later

  1. Open the contract (by search or by vendor)
  2. Navigate to the Properties tab
  3. Click Edit Properties

  1. Select properties using the checkboxes☑️
    1. Use Search and Add Filter to find properties without scrolling
  2. Click Save Properties
